Sugar Plug has been supplying the Washington D.C.,Maryland and Virginia area with our scratch based decadent desserts since 2016. The owner, Moriana Ratliff began her journey after graduating from Johnson & Wales University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport/Entertainment/Event Management under the school of Hospitality. Upon graduating, she started baking desserts asa way to save money for law school. However, realizing how gifted she was in the craft, she decided to start a bakery instead.
Since 2016,Sugar Plug has operated at farmer’s markets in Washington,D.C., College park, MD and Bowie, MD. The brand became successful and gained a loyal clientele. Patrons loved our cookies and cakes ranging from classic chocolate chip and snickerdoodle, to lemon and rum pound cakes. Customers enjoyed their classic favorites as well as building a relationship with. the very person who baked it fresh for them. Ultimately, giving each person their very own Sugar Plug or sweet supplier. Every week locals were excited to shop with us and share with their families and friends.
In 2020, Sugar Plug expanded to Miami, Florida. Unfortunately due to the unexpected global pandemic, we were unable to make our way back to our loyal clientele in the DMV area. In the meantime, we built our online storefront in which customers could have select items shipped nationwide. We created SUGAR STUDIO GIFT SHOP which included curated gifts to accompany the baked goods everyone knows and loves. The gift shop is an added bonus to make your Sugar Plug experience even more grand, as well as to show our appreciation to our clients. Moriana also used this time to hone in on her craft, working under well known and established Pastry Chefs at the Perez Art Museum Miami, The W South Beach, and the Former Versace Mansion. She learned the techniques of French, Italian, and Mediterranean pastry, bringing her customers new and improved products.
In 2022 Sugar Plug began donating a portion of sales to teaching elementary and middle school children at Rock Wit It Summer Camp in Miami, Florida. The children learned baking and pastry, the fundamentals of creating and running a business, leadership and financial literacy, all with a heavy emphasis on encouraging creativity.
To date, you can find us going back and forth between Washington D.C. and Miami. Though we are primarily based in the DMV area, we often travel for large events, catering, festivals, and competitions. We look forward to being your personal Sugar Plug and full service celebration connoisseur.
